I've been reading M's books for several years now and am in love with her other series, Neighborly Affections. I was scared going into this book that it wouldn't be as good.But this book, Her Shirtless Gentleman, was amazing!! Rob and Nora are an amazing couple. Not only are they fantastic together but they are wonderful as separate characters.
Nora is only several months out of a particularly nasty marriage and divorce and doesn't trust her dating instincts. After all, she married her first boyfriend so she's not really had any practice dating. But she's putting herself out there, unfortunately, it's with the 20-somethings she works with and they're taking her to those meat market bars we all hate. But lucky for her, one Friday night, she gets thrown up on and her life is changed forever.
Rob has known for many years now he wants to settle down and do the whole marriage/children thing. But alas, he just hasn't met that woman he connects with, until that Friday night he's out with the guys. One look at Nora and he knows, he knows she is the one. But he discovers her history and realizes he must treat her with a little old fashioned courting. And he does! And what happens is true magic.
But while we're watching them become a couple, we also get to watch Nora become a strong woman, confident in herself and her sexuality. We get to watch Rob who is finally allowed to focus his love, his protectiveness, and his strength on that one special woman. So we get to watch them grow individually and together. It really is a special story that M has written for us.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were awesome and the storyline was incredible. I really love this author. Her stories make you want to be in them. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful story! Lovely romantic couple. I didn't want the story to end. I wanted more of their wonderful romance of their wedding and children.
M. Q Barber has a long, slow, detailed writing style. I love her other books. This had a good plot and likeable characters, but just didn't suck you in or hold your attention like her other stories. As much as I wanted to love this book all I can say is it was ok. Average read.
A love story that deals with emotional abuse. Rob makes it his mission to heal Nora from the emotional abuse inflicted by her ex-husband. I loved his patience with her. It is very different to be a witness to his insecurities and different approaches. With his sensitivity Nora blossoms. Another winner from Ms Barber.
M.Q.Barber writes wonderful people. The kind you wish you really knew as friends. This is an old fashioned love story told from alternating points of view. Nora and Rob meet in a bar where both are the desiignated drivers for younger people, when one of his friends throws up on her he gives her his shirt...... thus the name of the book and the beginning of a romance that will make you smile. I was really happy to read a story about people older then the usual young and wild group who get down and dirty by page three. Nora and Rob are both nice people.........too old for the currant dating game and tho I found the story a little slow at times I still enjoyed it and I would still buy it again. The sex was well done but not as compelling as some of M.Q.s other books. The dialog was great thru the whole book but the best scene when Nora tells her X off after he acosts them in a resturant with the blond she had caught him in bed with. David, the X was a controling jerk and I was happy to see Nora finally stand up for herself. Rob overthought things at times and he could've moved a little faster and brought a few more exciting things into her life than bowling....lol
I received an ARC of this book in June and I think I've read and reread it at least 5 times by now (July 28) This is a wonderful book, just simply wonderful. It's the story of this couple's courtship, how they go from strangers to cautious friendship to so very much more. I love the fact that so much of the story is from Rob's POV; MQ Barber has a gift for writing the male POV, especially smart men who are both willing and capable of restraint in order to achieve their goals. I think Nora is a delightful heroine, funny and brave and smart. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of wooing and modern day courtship and I think Ms. Barber from the bottom of my heart for allowing the relationship between Rob and Nora develop over time and grow naturally. Of course, there are some steamy scenes, this is MQ Barber, after all. Sweet characters, strong storyline of the birth and growth of a relationship and the heat that comes with loving - I'll reread this again ... and again.
I just love M.Q. Barber's writing style. She makes you feel good. Her heroes are just so wonderful. They are nice, loving gentleman and Rob is no exception. This book is very different from the Neighborly Affection series but I still enjoyed it. I enjoyed that we got to hear Nora's internal insecurities as she is struggling to overcome the years of emotional abuse from her ex-husband. At the same time the author shares what Rob is thinking so we get the inside scoop on how off base her fears are. I loved that Rob recognized early on that Nora was his forever and how much he yearned to have a family and future with her. It was sweet. I think the author's own description of the book is most apt (of course). She said at the end of the book that she had "aimed to recapture the giddy joy of young love for a pair worried they'd outgrown it." She definitely succeeded!
